Our Journey!
In the wake of the devastating floods that wreaked havoc upon the lower Assam districts in 2004 and 2007, a glimmer of hope emerged. It was in 2010 that our journey began, under the visionary leadership of our founder Secretary, Mr. Amalesh Adhikary. Witnessing the destruction of physical infrastructure and the economy in these flood-ravaged regions, Mr. Adhikary, along with a dedicated group of individuals, took the first step toward change.
Informally constituting a working committee under the name of “Human Rights & Development Watch”, they ventured into the heart of the affected village areas of Baksa district. The committee embarked on a mission to rebuild what was lost – from repairing flood-damaged agricultural fields to empowering Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and organizing awareness programs.
One remarkable milestone during those early years was the transformation of the KUHIPAT SHG. With sheer determination and financial support from our organization, the farmers of the SHG cleared and rejuvenated the damaged agricultural fields and a fishery at Bartari High School between 2010 and 2013. These endeavours laid the foundation for what was to become the vibrant tapestry of Blue Sky.
